Wow! This is really impressive and shocking you guys.
A doctor performed a very dangerous surgery for the first time on his own with step by step instructions in a text message. His patient, a 16 year old, had only 6 inches of his arm left on his body. People said that the injury was from a hippopotamus while he was fishing, and others said that the kid had been caught in crossfire between forces of the government and rebels. Dr. David Nott says, “He was dying. He had about two or three days to live when I saw him… It was just luck that I was there and could do it.” He says that he contacted (by text) Professor Meirion Thomas, and said that he “texted him and he texted back step by step instruction on how to do it.” I bet no on would have ever thought of saving someones life with a text message. But, I think it would’ve been easier to just have the instructions given to you orally. The only question concerning the texting is what if the professor missed a step while he was texting the doctor?

Not only that, but what if he make a error describing something, sent the text, and then realized his mistake and tried to text again but the procedure had already started? What about spelling mistakes that can be misinterpreted? What if you where in the middle of the operation, sending instructions and your phone lost connection and couldn't send the last texts through? That was very risky, and talking on the phone would have been a better option.

I think that's cool. It's showing how technology can be used in unexpected way. I agree with Jessica though. It was a big risk but I'm glad the doctor took it so he could save the kids life which was AWESOME!!
